About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Principal AI Engineer to lead and accelerate AI adoption across our workforce management SaaS platform, which integrates HR, payments, and fintech capabilities to enable seamless financial operations.
This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on delivering real, measurable AI outcomes across the engineering organization. You will lead multiple AI initiatives, working closely with engineering, product, and leadership to improve development velocity, product capabilities, and operational efficiency.
The role requires a strong combination of deep AI/Data Science expertise and hands-on engineering execution, with a focus on building and scaling production-grade AI systems, including LLM-powered applications, RAG pipelines, and agent-based solutions.
Purpose of the Role
The Principal AI Engineer is responsible for defining and executing the organization’s AI strategy, while leading the design and implementation of advanced AI systems that deliver measurable business impact.
You will combine strong theoretical foundations in AI/ML with hands-on experimentation and implementation, helping the organization move beyond AI experimentation into scalable, production-ready AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the organization’s AI strategy across engineering, aligned with business and product objectives
- Own and deliver multiple AI initiatives, ensuring measurable improvements in engineering productivity, product capabilities, and operational efficiency
- Design and implement production-grade AI systems, including:
- RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
- Agent-based systems (e.g., CrewAI or similar frameworks)
- LLM-powered workflows and automation
- Evaluate, introduce, and operationalize modern AI tools, frameworks, and platforms
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted development practices and agentic coding tools across engineering teams
- Partner with engineering leadership, product teams, and executives to identify high-impact AI opportunities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through prototyping, experimentation, and implementation
- Define and track success metrics related to AI adoption, system performance, and business impact
- Establish best practices, standards, and governance for safe, secure, and effective AI usage
- Mentor and guide engineers in adopting AI tools and integrating AI into their workflows
- Stay current with rapidly evolving AI trends and translate them into practical, high-impact solutions
- Promote a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and innovation around AI
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including senior or principal-level technical leadership roles
- Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production systems using modern programming languages (Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar)
- Proven experience designing and implementing production-grade AI systems, including:
- RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
- Agent-based systems (e.g., CrewAI or similar)
- LLM integrations and orchestration
- Strong theoretical foundation in AI / Machine Learning / Data Science, including understanding of modeling, evaluation, and system design trade-offs
- Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams
- Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud environments, and modern development practices
- Ability to move from concept → prototype → production in fast-moving environments
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to define and track meaningful success metrics
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or equivalent depth through professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing AI solutions in B2B SaaS, workforce management, HR tech, fintech, or other complex operational domains
- Experience designing and scaling multi-agent systems or AI orchestration frameworks
- Experience improving LLM performance through prompt engineering, retrieval strategies, and evaluation approaches
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Previous experience in Principal, Staff, or Director-level engineering roles
- Experience driving AI adoption across engineering teams at scale
