QA Automation Lead – REF 42 – 49

Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for an experienced QA Automation Lead to lead quality assurance efforts within a distributed engineering team building a large-scale Healthcare eCommerce platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining QA leadership with strong automation expertise. You’ll lead and support QA Automation Engineers, while remaining actively involved in automation design, implementation, and technical decision-making.

The existing automation environment is primarily built around Java and Selenium WebDriver, so strong hands-on expertise with both is essential. The team is also expanding toward Playwright and TypeScript for newer applications and adopting AI-assisted testing and coding tools to improve engineering productivity.

You’ll take ownership of QA practices across the team, help define testing strategy and priorities, mentor QA engineers, and ensure consistent quality across business-critical applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of QA Automation Engineers.
• Define and continuously improve the overall QA strategy, processes, standards, and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance across automation and manual testing activities.
• Remain hands-on with test automation using Java and Selenium WebDriver.
• Maintain and improve existing automation frameworks and test suites.
• Design and review UI, regression, integration, API, and end-to-end automated tests.
• Drive improvements in automation coverage, reliability, maintainability, and execution time.
• Define testing priorities and ensure appropriate coverage based on business and technical risk.
• Review test plans, test cases, automation code, and QA documentation.
• Mentor QA engineers and support their technical and professional development.
• Identify opportunities to improve QA efficiency, tooling, processes, and collaboration.
• Coordinate testing activities across releases and ensure quality expectations are clearly understood.
• Partner closely with Engineering, Product, DevOps, and other stakeholders throughout the SDLC.
• Support investigation, prioritization, and resolution of complex defects and production issues.
• Ensure automated tests are effectively integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
• Help establish and monitor relevant QA metrics and quality indicators.
• Contribute to newer automation initiatives using Playwright and TypeScript.
• Promote effective use of AI-assisted coding and testing tools across the QA team.
• Act as a key point of contact for QA-related topics, risks, dependencies, and quality decisions.

Required Experience & Knowledge

Essential

• 5+ years of professional QA experience, with strong experience in test automation.
• Previous experience as a QA Lead, Test Lead, Senior QA Engineer with leadership responsibilities, or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Selenium WebDriver.
• Experience designing, maintaining, and improving automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of both manual and automated testing methodologies.
• Experience with API testing.
• Experience with UI, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Strong understanding of QA processes, test strategy, risk-based testing, and software quality practices.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to review automation code and provide technical guidance to QA engineers.
• Experience mentoring, supporting, or coordinating other QA professionals.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Playwright and TypeScript.
• Experience using AI coding/testing tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar.
• Experience with TestNG, JUnit, or Cucumber.
• Experience with SQL and database testing.
• Experience testing cloud-based applications.
• Experience defining QA metrics, dashboards, or quality KPIs.
• Experience working with distributed or remote engineering teams.
• Experience with large-scale eCommerce, healthcare, or other business-critical platforms.
